Summary

The short version.

Over 90 days RealSEOLife.com collected 3,389 impressions on real estate SEO queries and converted exactly zero of them. That is roughly 30 percent of the entire site's search visibility landing on a topic the site had never seriously covered. Buried in the query list was the uncomfortable one: real estate seo case study, 213 impressions, average position 53.5. Someone was searching for the exact thing I had not built. So rather than fabricate a result, I started the campaign and published the starting line.

Context

What was the system?

RealSEOLife.com is where I document what actually happens across my portfolio rather than what the industry says should happen. It has case studies on legal, health, IBM hardware, and portfolio architecture. It had nothing on real estate.

That turned out to be a problem I could measure. Pulling 90 days of Google Search Console data out of the Digital Karma Data Warehouse for realseolife.com, filtered to real estate terms, returned 3,389 impressions and 0 clicks. The site's total for the same window was 11,114 impressions. Real estate was already the single largest demand cluster on a site that had never written a word about it.

The position data explained the zero. Every meaningful real estate query sat between position 53 and 94. That is page 6 through page 10. Nobody is clicking anything at position 88, and that is not a ranking problem so much as an inventory problem. Google was finding something vaguely relevant and having to reach a long way to do it.

What it was reaching for was one page. `/industry/real-estate` absorbed 2,784 of those 3,389 impressions across 109 distinct queries. One page, standing in for an entire industry, ranked at the bottom of the results for all of it.

Methodology

What changed?

The vehicle is BestLocalX.com, the same property used in the Florida On Appeal campaign. It already had 23 city markets live across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas, plus 9 business categories. Zero of those categories were real estate, and its own warehouse numbers confirmed it: 3,645 impressions in 90 days, none of them real estate.

So the demand sits on one site and the machinery sits on another. That is the whole idea.

Segments got chosen from measured query demand rather than from how the industry usually divides itself. The five that went live on 2026-09-20:

Real Estate Agents, covering residential agents and realtors, is the biggest cluster by volume. `seo for real estate agents` at 203 impressions, `seo for realtors` at 186, `real estate agent seo` at 99, `realtor seo` at 89. It is also the most competitive ground in the entire category, so volume here is not the same as opportunity.

Commercial Real Estate Brokers is the opposite trade. Smaller cluster, roughly 174 impressions across `commercial real estate seo`, `seo commercial real estate`, `seo specialists for commercial real estate`, and `seo for commercial real estate`, but far thinner competition and a buyer with a real budget.

Real Estate Investment Firms came in on the strength of the investor queries, around 89 impressions across `seo services for real estate investors`, `real estate investor seo`, and `seo service for real estate investors`.

Real Estate Developers arrived from a genuinely surprising set: `enterprise seo for real estate developers`, `local seo for real estate developers`, and `real estate development seo company`. Low volume, very specific intent, nobody serving it.

Property Management Companies is the one segment with no query support in the data at all. It went in anyway because the segment is real, the buyer is real, and leaving a hole in the middle of a category map makes the whole map read as incomplete to both people and machines.

Each category was built as research methodology rather than as a sales page: what gets measured, what gets verified against a public record, and a plain statement that a visibility reading is not a competence rating. The investment firms category carries an explicit line that nothing on it is investment advice, because that segment genuinely needs one.

The cross-pollination question is worth noting because it answered itself. All five BellyUp city properties already exist as BestLocalX city markets: Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Tampa, Orlando, and Atlanta. The city layer was already built and already crawled. Real estate only needed a category layer laid on top of it.

Findings

What did the evidence show?

Nothing yet. That is the point of publishing this on day one.

What exists on 2026-09-20 is the baseline, and the baseline is the part most case studies quietly skip. Here it is.

RealSEOLife.com, 90 days ending 2026-09-20, real estate queries only: 3,389 impressions, 0 clicks. Top queries with impression-weighted average position: `real estate seo` 498 impressions at position 80.2, `seo for real estate` 348 at 85.6, `seo real estate` 314 at 58.0, `real estate seo case study` 213 at 53.5, `seo for real estate agents` 203 at 88.1, `seo for realtors` 186 at 90.7, `real estate seo expert` 183 at 81.8, `commercial real estate seo` 69 at 79.1.

BestLocalX.com, same window: 3,645 total impressions, 0 on real estate terms, 9 business categories, 23 city markets, 121 sitemap URLs before the build and 126 after.

The honest caveat: five category pages do not move position 80 to position 8. This is the foundation layer, not the campaign. What it does is give the segment somewhere to live so that city-level comparisons, directory listings, and market reports have a parent to attach to. The measurable question is not whether these five pages rank. It is whether real estate impressions on BestLocalX move off zero at all, and whether RealSEOLife's `real estate seo case study` position of 53.5 improves once a page by that name actually exists.

Those are the two numbers I am watching. Both are checkable by anyone with access to the same warehouse.

What We Kept

What can be reused?

When a site collects thousands of impressions and zero clicks on a topic it has never covered, that is not a ranking failure. It is a demand signal arriving before the inventory does. The instinct is to write one big page and hope, which is exactly what `/industry/real-estate` was doing while absorbing 109 queries at position 80. The better move is to let the query data draw the segment map, build the segments on a property that already has the local footprint, and publish the starting numbers before you have the ending ones. A case study written on day zero cannot be flattering, which is most of why it is worth reading later.
